2014 Archive
In recent weeks it has come
to my attention that certain parties are using my ghost stories and those of my
contributors as references for their own commercial enterprises. If you or
someone you know is writing a book on ghosts in the Pacific Northwest, PLEASE
DO NOT!!! copy or use the following stories or any other materials within
this website as references.

In 2012, I posted a
website update and one follow up on the tv show Dead Files. And that was
it until today. For those of you who still visit my website, it was a
long time between updates and visits. I hope you will understand. I have
told people that ghost hunting and writing of my experiences was a hobby that
paid for itself. Lately that has not been true. In 2012, I retired from
the U.S. military and started another career, which has taken quite a while. I now teach archaeology and cultural anthropology at a
nearby college. In between that, I have become involved in historic
preservation and ghost hunting has taken third place in my schedule. In
2014, I will attempt to put ghost hunting on a higher level.
Oregon
Ghost Convention April 2014
11 - 13 April 2014
I will be speaking at the Oregon
Ghost Conference
in Oregon City. I am quite honored that I will be the first guest speaker
on Friday night. I will be talking about why we and the other cultures of
the earth need ghosts, to tie us to the past and give meaning to our place in
the world. Even if you do not believe in ghosts. Here is their
schedule The Oregon Ghost
Conference has been going on for three years. It is rare in that entry
is free to the public. It is also geared to the
professional/semi-professional as well as people off the street. It's
organizers include Rocky, William and Kristin, among many other
volunteers. Here is their information:
April
11th around 5 pm till April 13th at 3 pm. The Oregon Ghost Conference will
include guest speakers from all over the Pacific Northwest and the western part
of the United States. In addition, the Conference will include special
Investigative Ghost Tours of Oregon's oldest incorporated city. The Conference
will also include a vendor area, classes, meet and greet events. Oregon Ghost
Conference attendees/vendors may stay at the Best Western Rivershore Hotel at a
special discounted rate of $80 + tax/night. Just say that you are attending the
conference when you make your reservations! For reservations call: 503-655-7141.
The Oregon Ghost Conference Meet and Greet will be on Friday April 11th at 7 pm
at the Historic Midway Public House.
Crypticon
May 2014 23 TO 25 May 2014 I will be at Crypticon in Seatac for the Memorial Day
Weekend. Some of you may or may not know this but there is a paranormal
conference subset to Crypticon. I think I will be speaking there. I
will also be sharing a retail sales table with my cousin, Makeup Artist Enola
Grey. The conference is an extravaganza of
horror. There are many vendors, selling items ranging from artwork,
movie props, to costumes, to Venom Energy Drink. Many of your favorite
horror actors and production staff also appear. Some of them are there
to advertise new work or to talk and sign autographs for fans. There
will be a zombie parade, make up contest and manyhttp://enolagrey.weebly.com/ panels. Somehow I
managed to insult Richard (Jaws) Keil two years ago. Last year I
rode up the elevator with Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, in her civilian
persona. It was all I could do to NOT yell, 'my father wants you to have
his love child!' You never know who will be there, except Enola and
myself. Click the banner below to see the Crypticon website.
Crypticon has a great relationship with the
region's ghost hunting community. They allow space for paranormal groups
to meet and discuss issues of paranormalism, or ghost hunting if you
will. The crypticon page devoted to this is located
here. At this time, there is nothing posted. However, I expect
that other panels and announcements will come soon. One of the major
organizers for this event is WSPIR.
They and the other partners maintain a separate web page, which will have more
information, as we get closer to the event. Please follow the link,
below.
A
Bit Late but Here is a Link to the Dead Files Posted 2 March
2014
In early 2011, I was contacted by
producers from the show, The
Dead Files, which aires
on the Travel Channel. They were
looking for locations to film (like all the genre tv shows) Someone from a
community theatre, the Slocum House Theater contacted the show.
The producers wanted someone familiar with Vancouver’s history to
interview. I was glad to help and
put them in touch with a few other people, such as the local historical
society. It was an interesting
episode and with a little web hunting you can visit the show.
It aired on 18 May 2012 and was named, The
Final Curtain. You can see the
entire episode on Youtube. I have also included a small video file of my
appearance on the show. Pardon the low quality.
Any
information on ghosts in Clark County, Washington for a new book? Posted 2 March
18 August 2014
It has been several years since I wrote a new book on the haunts
of the Pacific Northwest. I am gathering information for a new book, which
I plan to release next spring. I want to write an overview of the haunts
of Clark County, Washington, including my home town of Vancouver. I will
take some information from some of my earlier books, which includes the Vancouver
Barracks. However, I want to include many new listings. If you have
a haunted house or business that you would like to discuss with me or have
appear in my book, please contact me.
Haunted
Vancouver Barracks Article
Here is an article
written by the Army Times magazine about haunted military posts across the
United States. Of course, the Vancouver Barracks ranks among the most
haunted.
